#NOLAZINE - Comedian and actor Katt Williams is making a major move in the entertainment industry by helping develop a $100 million film production campus in Anniston, Alabama, aimed at creating more opportunities for Black filmmakers, actors, and other creatives.

The project, known as Kemet Movie Works, is being developed at the former Fort McClellan military base. Williams has partnered with entrepreneurs William Hanford Lee and LaRonda Sutton to transform the property into a modern entertainment hub featuring two professional soundstages, virtual production technology, and a 6,000-seat amphitheater for concerts and major events.

Williams, who has spent years speaking out against Hollywood’s power structures and advocating for Black ownership, is now working to create an alternative where talented individuals can have greater creative freedom and control over their careers.

The project also includes a planned partnership with Miles College, a historically Black institution in Alabama, to introduce students to artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and advanced filmmaking technology.

Williams summed up his motivation with a powerful statement: “Nobody needs a complainer, even if they’re correct.”

If successful, the development could become a major opportunity for Black creatives looking to break into entertainment without depending entirely on traditional Hollywood studios.

Do y’all think Katt Williams deserves more recognition for investing in opportunities for Black creatives?
