Black Female Engineer Creates HaloBraid, Innovative Device That Helps Hairstylists Braid Hair Up to Five Times Faster

#NOLAZINE - Black female engineer and entrepreneur Yinka Ogunbiyi is making waves in the beauty industry with her groundbreaking invention, HaloBraid, a device designed to help professional hairstylists complete braids up to five times faster.
The innovative technology aims to reduce the long hours and physical strain that come with braiding hair, potentially allowing stylists to serve more clients while increasing their earning potential.
Unlike traditional automated machines, HaloBraid is designed to assist hairstylists rather than replace them. Braiders start each braid by hand before the device takes over the repetitive weaving process, allowing professionals to maintain control over their work.
The idea came during the COVID-19 pandemic when Ogunbiyi spent four exhausting days braiding her own hair into knotless braids. Frustrated by the time-consuming process, she decided to use her engineering background to create a solution.
According to the company, HaloBraid can complete individual braids up to five times faster than traditional methods, potentially changing how salons operate.
“We built it to assist, not to replace,” Ogunbiyi explained. “My ultimate goal is to give people this time back.”
Her invention represents another example of Black women using innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology to create solutions within their communities.
Do y’all think HaloBraid could change the hair braiding industry forever? And would you trust a device to help braid your hair?
