How Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Tracked Down Eazy-E and Turned One Opportunity Into a Legendary Hip-Hop Career

#NOLAZINE - Before becoming one of the most successful rap groups of the 1990s, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony were five young artists from Cleveland, Ohio, determined to get their music heard by legendary N.W.A. rapper and Ruthless Records founder Eazy-E.
Originally known as B.O.N.E. Enterpri$e, the group developed a unique sound that combined rapid-fire rapping, melodic harmonies, and street storytelling. Believing Eazy-E could help take their careers to another level, they made it their mission to reach him.
According to stories shared by group members, they eventually got an opportunity to rap for Eazy-E over the telephone. Impressed by their talent, Eazy showed interest, but the group knew they still needed to meet him personally.
When they learned Eazy-E would be performing in Cleveland, they pursued the opportunity to connect with him face-to-face. Their determination eventually paid off when Eazy signed them to Ruthless Records.
In 1994, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony released their breakthrough EP Creepin on ah Come Up, featuring classic records such as “Thuggish Ruggish Bone” and “Foe tha Love of $,” which featured Eazy-E himself.
Sadly, Eazy-E passed away in March 1995, just as the group's career was reaching new heights. Bone later honored their mentor with the emotional hit “Tha Crossroads,” which became one of the biggest records of their career.
What makes their story remarkable is that they didn't have social media, viral videos, or millions of followers to attract attention. They had talent, determination, and the courage to pursue an opportunity that could change their lives.
Their journey remains one of hip-hop's greatest examples of how persistence, networking, and being prepared can turn a dream into reality.
Do you think Bone Thugs-N-Harmony would have become as successful without Eazy-E? And where do you rank them among the greatest rap groups of all time?
