#NOLAZINE - During the early 2000s, Usher and TLC singer Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas were considered one of R&B's most popular celebrity couples. Their relationship began around 2001, and fans loved seeing the two stars together, especially when Chilli appeared in Usher's music videos for “U Remind Me” and “U Got It Bad.”

However, by 2004, their highly publicized romance had come to an end, leaving fans wondering what went wrong.

That same year, Usher released his blockbuster album Confessions, featuring hits such as “Burn,” “Confessions Part II,” and “Caught Up.” Because the album explored cheating, heartbreak, and relationship struggles, many fans assumed Usher was revealing what happened between him and Chilli.

But Chilli later disputed those assumptions, explaining that the album's infidelity storyline wasn't a direct reflection of their relationship. Some of the material was actually inspired by producer Jermaine Dupri's personal experiences.

Years later, Chilli revealed that she and Usher continued reconnecting romantically after their official breakup, with their on-and-off relationship reportedly continuing until around 2019.

Although they never married, their romance remains one of the most memorable relationships in R&B history. More than two decades later, fans still associate their love story with one of Usher's most successful albums.

Do you think Usher and Chilli should have stayed together? And did you originally believe his Confessions album was about their breakup?
