#NOLAZINE - Before TikTok challenges and viral dance trends became part of everyday music culture, DJ Webstar and Young B had the entire country dancing to “Chicken Noodle Soup.”

Released in 2006, the Harlem anthem became one of the most recognizable dance records of the mid-2000s, introducing millions of listeners to a dance movement that originated in New York City.

The record featured DJ Webstar, rapper Young B, also known as Bianca Bonnie, and rapper AG, combining an infectious beat with a simple but unforgettable hook. The song quickly gained popularity throughout Harlem before spreading across the country through music videos, parties, television, and early internet platforms such as YouTube.

What made “Chicken Noodle Soup” special was its connection to Harlem's street-dance culture. Young people were already performing the dance before the song became a national sensation, helping turn a neighborhood movement into a mainstream phenomenon.

The record eventually reached No. 45 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving DJ Webstar and Young B one of the biggest moments of their careers.

But after the song's success, many fans wondered what happened to the artists behind the hit.

DJ Webstar continued working in music and entertainment, while Young B eventually began performing under the name Bianca Bonnie. She continued pursuing music and later appeared on VH1's Love & Hip Hop: New York, introducing herself to a new generation of fans.

Interestingly, “Chicken Noodle Soup” experienced another major moment in 2019 when BTS member J-Hope released a new version featuring Becky G. The remake paid tribute to the original Harlem dance craze and introduced the song's legacy to an international audience.

Nearly two decades after its original release, “Chicken Noodle Soup” remains a memorable part of 2000s hip-hop culture.

DJ Webstar and Young B may not have maintained the same mainstream visibility they enjoyed in 2006, but their contribution to dance music and early viral hip-hop culture cannot be overlooked.

NOLAZINE WANTS TO KNOW: Do you remember when “Chicken Noodle Soup” had everybody dancing? And do DJ Webstar and Young B deserve more recognition for helping create one of the biggest dance crazes of the 2000s?
