#NOLAZINE - More than 25 years later, Mercedes' name still brings back memories of one of the greatest eras in Louisiana hip-hop history. During the late 1990s, when Master P and No Limit Records were dominating the music industry, Mercedes was among the artists who helped make the legendary tank one of the most recognizable movements in Southern rap.

While artists like Mia X, Mystikal, Silkk the Shocker, C-Murder, Mac, and Soulja Slim became household names among Southern hip-hop fans, Mercedes brought her own style and presence to the No Limit family.

In 1999, Mercedes released her debut album, “Rear End,” giving fans an opportunity to hear her as a solo artist during the height of the label's success. The album became part of No Limit's unforgettable catalog, arriving during a time when the company's releases filled record stores across America.

Although Mercedes never reached the same level of mainstream recognition as some of her labelmates, her contribution to the movement remains part of Louisiana's rich musical history.

As No Limit Records began changing in the early 2000s, Mercedes gradually faded from the mainstream spotlight. However, longtime fans who remember the golden era of No Limit still recognize her name and the album she released.

Mercedes' story is a reminder that not every artist who contributes to a legendary movement becomes a superstar, but their place in hip-hop history still matters.

Nolazine wants to know: Do y'all remember Mercedes from No Limit Records? And do y'all think she deserves more recognition for being part of one of the greatest movements in Southern hip-hop history?
