Remember When Rich Boy Had Everybody Throwing Some D's?

#NOLAZINE – Back in 2006, Mobile, Alabama rapper Rich Boy took the hip-hop industry by storm with his unforgettable hit “Throw Some D's,” a record that became one of the biggest Southern rap anthems of the 2000s.
Born Maurice Richards, Rich Boy gained national attention after connecting with superproducer Polow da Don, who produced the breakout single. The song celebrated Southern car culture, particularly the popular trend of putting oversized rims on customized vehicles.
“Throw Some D's” quickly took over radio stations, clubs, and neighborhoods across America, eventually reaching No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In 2007, Rich Boy released his self-titled debut album, which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. The success of his breakthrough single also led to a star-studded remix featuring André 3000, Nelly, Jim Jones, The Game, and Murphy Lee.
Although Rich Boy never reached those same commercial heights again, his contribution to Southern hip-hop remains unforgettable. He helped bring national attention to Mobile, Alabama, and created a record that still brings back memories of the oversized-rim era.
Nearly 20 years later, “Throw Some D's” remains a Southern hip-hop classic.
