  • When Rapper Biggie Died Faith Evans Decided To Share Her Half of His Estate With His Mother Voletta Wallace:

When The Notorious B.I.G.  tragically passed away in 1997, his estate was legally divided among his immediate family. As his wife, Faith Evans  was automatically awarded 50% of his estate , while their son Christopher “CJ” Wallace Jr.  and Biggie’s daughter T’yanna Wallace  each received 25% . Despite having the legal authority to manage the estate independently, Faith chose to share administrative control with Biggie’s mother, Voletta Wallace . In her 2008 memoir, Keep the Faith , she revealed her reasoning behind this decision: “I could have just made sure she was taken care of and then had my attorney let her attorney know our plans. But I wanted actual input from her on how she wanted things to be handled. And I wanted to have her there just as a way to show her that I was trying to be open and collaborative in the whole process.” By working together, Faith and Voletta ensured Biggie’s legacy was preserved and honored  in a way that reflected both his family’s wishes and his enduring influence on hip-hop culture. Their collaborative efforts have helped maintain Biggie’s presence in music and beyond, keeping his name alive for future generations.

  • Ne-Yo’s Unintended Hit: The Story Behind "Make Me Better"

Ne-Yo has long been recognized as one of the most talented songwriters in the music industry, crafting hits for both himself and some of the biggest names in R&B and hip-hop. One of his most notable contributions came in 2007 with the song "Make Me Better," a chart-topping collaboration between Fabolous and Ne-Yo. However, the song's origins tell an interesting story of artistic inspiration and an unexpected twist in its journey. Originally, Ne-Yo wrote the hook for "Make Me Better" with the intention of collaborating with Jay-Z. Inspired by the deep love and partnership between Jay-Z and Beyoncé, he crafted the lyrics to reflect a power couple dynamic. However, as fate would have it, the song found its way to another artist who would take it to new heights. While in the studio with Fabolous, Ne-Yo played some of his unreleased tracks. The moment Fab heard "Make Me Better," he was immediately drawn to it and asked to have it for himself. Ne-Yo agreed, and the track was soon transformed into one of Fabolous' most memorable hits. Released in 2007, "Make Me Better" quickly climbed the Billboard Hot 100 chart, reaching the Top 10. The song's smooth blend of Fabolous' signature laid-back flow and Ne-Yo’s melodic chorus resonated with audiences, helping it achieve platinum certification that same year. This behind-the-scenes tale of "Make Me Better" showcases the fluid nature of music creation and how a song initially meant for one artist can find an even more fitting home elsewhere. Ne-Yo’s ability to craft timeless hits, whether for himself or others, remains one of his greatest strengths, further solidifying his legacy in the industry.

  • Jasmine Guy Turned Down NBC’s "A Different World" Spin-Off For Dwayne and Whitley

NBC once had plans to create a spin-off  of the hit sitcom "A Different World" , focusing on the beloved couple Dwayne Wayne  and Whitley Gilbert . However, Jasmine Guy , who portrayed Whitley, ultimately declined the opportunity, citing exhaustion from the role  and a desire to explore other facets of her acting career. Guy played Whitley Gilbert  from the ages of 25 to 31 , and while the character became a cultural icon, she felt that Whitley had eclipsed her identity and range as an actress . At the time, she wanted to move beyond the persona that had defined much of her career. Despite her initial struggles with being typecast, Jasmine Guy has since made peace  with Whitley Gilbert’s impact, acknowledging the significance of the role and what it meant to audiences. "A Different World"  remains one of the most influential Black sitcoms in television history, and Whitley and Dwayne’s relationship is still cherished by fans today.
