Born in 1968 to Josie and Percy Miller Sr., Kevin grew up alongside his siblings Percy, Germaine, Corey and Vyshonne. The world would later know three of the Miller brothers by their famous names: Master P, C-Murder and Silkk the Shocker. Before the platinum albums, sold-out concerts and business success, however, they were a close family facing the difficult realities of life in one of New Orleans’ toughest housing developments.

The Millers did not have much financially. Basic necessities were sometimes difficult to obtain, and the violence surrounding the Calliope Projects created dangers that young people were forced to confront daily. What the family lacked in material possessions, they attempted to replace with strong bonds and unconditional love.

Kevin’s childhood revolved around his family, basketball and the friendships he developed throughout the neighborhood. Like many young men growing up in the Calliope, he understood the streets and the unspoken rules that came with them. He was remembered for his charisma, intelligence and ability to connect with the people around him.

He reportedly became associated with a neighborhood circle known as the Tuesday Crew. Within the community, Kevin developed a reputation for being street-smart and respected. However, the same environment that gave him friendships, identity and a sense of belonging also exposed him to the violence that would eventually claim his life.

Meanwhile, Percy was beginning to imagine a future beyond the projects. He looked at entertainers such as Michael Jackson, who had used music to transform his family’s circumstances, and believed he could accomplish something similar. That dream eventually led Percy to California, where he studied business, opened a record store and began building what would become No Limit Records.

Kevin never had the opportunity to witness the full realization of that dream.

In 1990, tragedy struck when Kevin was shot and killed during a robbery in New Orleans. His sudden death devastated the Miller family and sent shock waves throughout the community. Master P has repeatedly described Kevin’s death as one of the defining moments of his life. Accounts of the family’s history confirm that Kevin was killed in New Orleans in 1990 and that the loss deeply affected his brother.

After receiving the news, Percy returned home from California, while Corey reportedly left the military to be with the family. Their lives had changed forever. The Miller siblings were no longer only fighting to escape poverty—they were grieving the loss of someone who had been beside them since childhood.

Kevin also left behind a son, Veno Miller, who was born after his father’s death. Master P and his former wife, Sonya, later helped raise Veno, ensuring that Kevin’s child remained surrounded by family. Veno grew up carrying the name and legacy of a father he never had the opportunity to meet.

The pain of Kevin’s death became part of Master P’s motivation to build a different future. Percy understood that remaining connected to the same environment could place more members of his family in danger. He committed himself to expanding No Limit Records, creating opportunities and using entrepreneurship as a path away from poverty and violence.

As No Limit Records grew, Master P brought his brothers and other relatives into the business. The family would continue experiencing challenges and heartbreak in the years that followed. Their mother, Josie Miller, passed away in 2019, creating another painful loss.
