Singer Jhai Blossoms Into Her Own With New Album "Late Bloomer" — A Legacy in Motion

ree

Jhai is no newcomer to music — in fact, she was born into it. Now, with the release of her new album "Late Bloomer", an 8-track showcase of soul, skill, and self-discovery, the rising artist proves she is fully stepping into her own spotlight.

A granddaughter of music royalty, Jhai inherits a profound artistic lineage. Her grandmother, Fontella Bass, earned two Grammy nominations and carved her name in history with the classic 1965 hit "Rescue Me." Her grandfather, Lester Bowie, was a pioneering jazz trumpeter known for his iconic work and innovation. Add in her father — a singer and guitarist — and Jhai’s musical roots run generations deep.

But heritage alone doesn’t build a career. Jhai’s journey is one of talent, discipline, and evolution.

Raised in Ridgewood, NJ and St. Louis, MO, Jhai displayed star qualities early on. She mastered multiple instruments — including guitar, piano, and flute — and began performing publicly as a child.

By age 11, she and her kid band No Broccoli were already performing for major labels like Def Jam, Sony, Atlantic, and Interscope.

At 14, she sang on The Today Show’s kid edition of The Voice alongside her younger sister — a rare feat that cemented her potential.

Now 27, Jhai is no longer the precocious kid in front of record executives — she’s a fully developed artist shaping her own sound. She has:

  • Headlined stages like Eddie’s Attic, The Sheldon, and The National Blues Museum

  • Had her music featured on the BET+ series “Bigger”

  • Sung the theme song for BET’s web series “8 Days a Week”

  • Continued sharpening her production, writing, and performance abilities

Her work ethic mirrors the greats that came before her — disciplined, creative, and unstoppable.

Her new album "Late Bloomer" is a testament to growth: emotionally rich, vocally stunning, and musically layered. Across 8 tracks, Jhai explores themes of maturity, self-awareness, love, and resilience. It’s the sound of an artist who took her time, learned her craft, and is now ready for the world to watch her flourish.

Jhai isn’t simply continuing a family legacy — she’s carving out one of her own. Late Bloomer marks the beginning of a new chapter where she steps forward not just as a descendant of legends, but as a rising one herself.
