#NOLAZINE - When discussing some of the most dangerous figures in drug trafficking history, Griselda Blanco, famously known as the “Cocaine Godmother,” is a name that continues to come up decades later.

Born in Colombia, Blanco became one of the most powerful figures in Miami's cocaine trade during the 1970s and 1980s. She built a multimillion-dollar drug trafficking empire at a time when the illegal cocaine business was dominated largely by men. However, her rise to power came with extreme violence, as her criminal organization was linked to numerous murders and bloody conflicts throughout South Florida.

Blanco's reputation for ruthlessness made her one of the most feared women in organized crime. After years of trafficking, arrests, and imprisonment, she was eventually deported to Colombia in 2004.

In September 2012, Blanco was shot and killed in Medellín, Colombia, at the age of 69.

Her controversial life story gained renewed attention with the release of Netflix's 2024 series ** Griselda, starring Sofía Vergara**, which introduced millions of viewers to the woman behind one of Miami's most notorious drug empires.

Although Hollywood has brought her story to television, the real-life consequences of her criminal activities left countless families devastated.

Do y'all think Griselda Blanco was one of the most ruthless drug traffickers in history? And did Netflix do a good job telling her story, or did the series leave too much out? 👀🔥
