#NOLAZINE - If you grew up in New Orleans during the late 1990s and early 2000s, there's a good chance you remember when Josephine Johnny had the entire city shaking a leg! From neighborhood parties to clubs and second lines, his music and signature dance became a major part of New Orleans culture.

Born Johnny Watson, Josephine Johnny was more than just a bounce rapper. He was a trendsetter who helped create a movement that extended beyond the streets of New Orleans. His famous “Josephine Johnny” dance became a local phenomenon, while songs like “They Want Josephine Johnny,” “Workin' Wit' Sumthin',” and “Shorty In That Thong” made him a household name among bounce music fans.

Known for his unforgettable energy and famous “Lawd have mercy” catchphrase, Josephine Johnny brought something different to the bounce scene. His influence helped shape an era when New Orleans artists were creating dances, slang, and music that would become part of the city's identity.

Sadly, Josephine Johnny passed away on December 28, 2021, at the age of 45, leaving behind a legacy that continues to live through his music and the people who grew up watching him perform.

Do y'all think Josephine Johnny deserves to be mentioned alongside legends like DJ Jubilee, DJ Jimi, and Partners-N-Crime when discussing the pioneers of New Orleans bounce music? And who remembers doing his dance back in the day? 👀🕊️🔥
