#NOLAZINE - New Orleans has produced generations of musicians, creatives and entrepreneurs who have taken their talents far beyond Louisiana. Blake “Blizzy” Robinson represents all three worlds.

The West Bank native is a professional self-taught drummer who built an international career as the touring drummer for G-Eazy. Away from the stage, Robinson has turned his passion for fashion and culture into entrepreneurship as the co-founder of The Loyalty Club, a New Orleans-rooted streetwear brand and creative company.

His journey started long before the major tours and television appearances.

From the West Bank to the Drums

Born and raised on the West Bank of New Orleans, growing up around the Marrero and Harvey area, Robinson was introduced to music through the church.

As a preacher's kid, some of his earliest experiences with rhythm came from banging on pots and pans around the house. Eventually, that childhood curiosity turned into something more serious when he began playing drums in his father's church.

Robinson developed his abilities without the traditional path of formal musical training. He was largely self-taught, learning through experience, repetition and performing.

Those early years in church ultimately prepared him for an opportunity that would change his life.

Meeting G-Eazy in New Orleans

Robinson's connection with G-Eazy dates back to around 2009, when the future rap star was attending Loyola University New Orleans.

G-Eazy—born Gerald Gillum—was still building his career at the time. When an opening eventually became available behind the drums, Robinson auditioned and earned his place in the group.

It became the beginning of a professional relationship that would take the New Orleans drummer around the world.

As G-Eazy's career exploded during the 2010s, Robinson was there onstage, helping bring the rapper's records to life in front of live audiences.

He went from playing drums in church on the West Bank to performing on international tours and at major venues, including Colorado's famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

Taking His Talent to National Television

Touring wasn't Robinson's only exposure to major audiences.

His work as a drummer has placed him on nationally televised stages, with performances associated with shows including Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Robinson has also brought his drumming into the studio. His professional credits have included playing live drums on music produced by Grammy-winning producer Hit-Boy.

The accomplishments show how far a skill first developed in a New Orleans church could travel.

But music was only one side of Robinson's creativity.

Turning Personal Style Into The Loyalty Club

While touring within hip-hop circles, Robinson also became known for his fashion sense.

In 2015, XXL recognized him among the “12 Most Stylish People at Agenda NYC.” That same year, Robinson helped channel his interest in clothing, street culture and creativity into The Loyalty Club.

The brand developed into more than simply another clothing line.

Rooted in New Orleans culture, The Loyalty Club represents the intersection of fashion, music, creativity and entrepreneurship. Its identity reflects many of the same principles suggested by its name: loyalty, relationships and building something meaningful with the people around you.

For Robinson, fashion provided another outlet to express the creativity that audiences were already seeing behind the drums.

The company has also expanded its presence into music through Loyalty Club Sound, creating another connection between Robinson's entrepreneurial ventures and his musical background.

More Than G-Eazy's Drummer

It's easy to introduce Blake “Blizzy” Robinson as G-Eazy's drummer, but his story extends much further.

He's a New Orleans musician who transformed a childhood passion into an international career. He's a fashion creative who turned his personal style into a business. And he's an entrepreneur who has continued building his own identity while spending years helping another artist perform on some of the world's biggest stages.

That distinction matters.

For musicians working behind major artists, touring can provide an incredible career, but building ownership outside of the stage can create something that lasts even when the tour ends.

Robinson appears to understand that concept.

Through The Loyalty Club and Loyalty Club Sound, he's building businesses and intellectual property connected directly to his own vision.

Another New Orleans Success Story

New Orleans' influence on popular music extends well beyond the artists standing at the front of the stage.

There are musicians, producers, engineers, designers and entrepreneurs from the city working behind the scenes throughout the entertainment industry. Robinson's journey is another example.

From Marrero and Harvey to international stages, Blake “Blizzy” Robinson has built a career that combines his Louisiana upbringing with music, fashion and entrepreneurship.

He may be known around the world for sitting behind the drums for G-Eazy, but back home in New Orleans, his story represents something even bigger:

A local kid who took the rhythm he discovered in church, traveled the world with it—and used the opportunity to build a brand of his own.
